a Mazda prototype named 787B, powered by a four-rotor rotary engine, it became the first Japanese car to win the 59th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1991.

The ACO (Automobile Club de l’Ouest), organizer of the event, invited Mazda to carry out a demonstration race which will take place on June 9 and 10. The iconic car will be driven by Yojiro Terada, who has a record 29 Le Mans appearances.
The Le Mans-winning 787B will perform some demo laps within the events of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Centenary celebrations.

Race number 91 will take place at Circuit de la Sarthe in France from June 7-11, 2023.
The 1991 winning Mazda will also take part in a demo race on the short course on the nights of June 9 and 10 before the 24 Hour race begins where other Japanese Le Mans-winning cars and it is also scheduled to appear at the Le Mans Classic from June 30 to July 2.

During the Le Mans Centenary race week, there will also be a themed exhibition called “Japan Endless Discovery”, a collaboration of the JNTO (Japan National Tourism Organization) and which will serve as a venue for exhibiting Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV (European specification) equipped with the latest rotary engine technology that works as an electric generator.
