MG HS 2024 receives a facelift and we had a brief approach with the plug-in hybrid version

What’s going on?

MG is one of the new brands in the Mexican market, and its penetration can be considered one of the most successful.because he knew how to quickly conquer a type of client who is looking for exactly what MG offers, style, good design over performance.

I remember 2021 well when i tried the HS excite versionlet’s say it’s the entry one, and there is also a version with more aesthetic equipment available called Trophy- With the Exite version in mind, I chose the same version in the 2024 model of the same one that I drove in 2021 for the short “Ride and Drive ”.

MG HS 2024

What changed for 2024?

The external differences are obvious at first sight, since the front is completely new, it adopts the design of the controversial MG GT, the grille is now black and unlike the 2021 model there is very little chrome, the headlights also have a new design and Full LED technologyand since we are talking about this type of lighting, it is prudent to mention that the rear optics retain the appearance and design, but also adopt LEDs and there is a new wheel design for both versions -Excite and Trophy-

MG HS 2024: Interior

The interiors are basically the same, it maintains the 12.3-inch digital cluster and the 10.1-inch central touch screen, compatible with the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems.

The Trophy version adds a red button on the steering wheel that has the legend “Super Sport” and is to select the driving modes

  • leather upholstery
  • Driver’s seat with electric drive
  • Electric glasses

MG HS 2024: Engine

For the 2024 model the brand stops offering the version with a 2.0-liter engine and it will focus only on the 1.5-liter supercharged engine in its two versions, the internal combustion and the plug-in hybrid, which I will talk about later.

Specifications:

  • 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder (TDGi)
  • Power 160 hp @ 5,500 rpm
  • Torque: 184 lb-ft @ 1,700 -4,300 rpm
  • DTC box transmission (robotic) with 7 changes
  • Drive: Front (FWD)

MG HS 2024: Handling

With a high driving position and the availability of various seat and steering wheel adjustments, a comfortable posture is achieved, visibility is good and there are few blind spots.

The powertrain -engine and box- performs with ease and thanks to the turbocharger it gains acceleration progressively, linearly, without being explosive.the staggering of the robotic transmission works in the medium-high range of the tachometer and if we are gentle with the accelerator pedal, good speed averages can be achieved without sacrificing consumption, let us remember that in turbo engines it can be high if we indulge When accelerating, according to the manufacturer, the HS should give us about 18 km per liter in combined consumption, but I think that this figure is too optimistic, in real conditions it should go between 12/15 km per liter.

The work of the suspension is favorable to the dimensions and is made up of the perfect recipe made up of a front McPherson scheme and rear Multi-link

MG HS 2024: Safety

Both versions have six airbags, hill assist, blind spot monitor, brakes with ABS, traction control and stability control.

What does the Trophy Performance Pack consist of?

  • Outside there are different emblems and grill
  • bucket seats
  • The MG Super Sport Drive Mode system (Red button on the steering wheel)
  • paddle shifters on the steering wheel

A slight contact with the plug-in hybrid version called MG eHS

I was able to drive the plug-in hybrid version for a short while, and almost all the time I did it in full electric mode, and here I give you a few impressions and technical data.

Today we are already accustomed to bivalent mechanics, and manufacturers do not need to deliver products with extravagant designs so that the consumer will turn to see them.

The MG eHS plug-in hybrid carries the same 1.5-liter combustion engine as the EXITE and TROPHY PACK versions but adds another electric motor that delivers up to 121 hp and an extra 170 lb-ft, in total this set will produce 281 hp.

In the short drive in the plug-in version I was only able to cover about 10 kms in my driving shift.

The eHS battery is 16.6 kWh and can be charged on Tesla-installed chargerssince the manufacturer MG offers the adapter for the SAE J17772 connector used by the American manufacturer (Nobody knows who she works for) and it offers us a range of about 52 km of entirely electric travel and a consumption in the city of a little more than 47 km per liter is officially reported and that figure will be reduced in the event that the thermal engine works most of the time, for example on motorway journeys
