In full movement towards electromobility and a lukewarm awakening of ecological awareness in some companies, MINI gives the note by presenting some new wheels created with recycled aluminum, which are more sustainable and, according to the brand, have the same quality as the traditional ones.
The vehicle that carries them is the MINI Cooper Convertible SE, the convertible and plug-in version of the classic city car. According to BMW, the company that owns BMW, the wheels have a carbon footprint of 0.16 kg for every kilogram of aluminum, which represents a up to 75% reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional wheel production.

In addition to being able to give new life to items that would otherwise end up in the trash, The advantage of these recycled wheels is that the aluminum used does not need to go through the classic electrolysis process, which consumes a lot of energy. Added to this, there is the possibility that when these wheels end their useful life, they can be recycled again and used in, for example, window frames or parts for aeronautics, among many other applications.
The recycling of materials for the automotive industry is materializing in the use of recycled plastics (and even in the use of marine debris to obtain that plastic, which is an additional advantage), recycled batteries and also in the manufacture of tires, which companies like Goodyear are almost ready to put on the market.
