Mitsubishi rescues the Colt nameto name their newest release, which, like the ASX has a lot of French and little of Japanese. However, it is a key piece within the organization chart of the brand, to seek profitability in the old continent.
He new Mitsubishi Colt 2024 is based on the Renault Clio, with which it shares much more than the CMF-B platform. The relationship is evident from the outset, but unlike the ASX, here the designers have adopted a few solutions to try to distance themselves.
Thus, in the front we have a grill with the Dynamic Shield language. The fascia is also different. What remains the same is the hood, headlights and fenders. At the back, it is distinguished by the Mitsubishi and Colt insignia, large, trying to mislead the less demanding. The upper spoiler is black.
Indoors, we have the same story and that is that the Colt is very similar to the Clio. On the steering wheel, we have the Mitsubishi logo enclosed in a circle, which makes it clear that it is a last-minute solution. But it works and does its job.
In terms of equipment, we have a 9.3-inch touch screen. In the basic versions it is 7 inches. Connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is guaranteed. For its part, the cluster is 7 or 10 inches. The sound equipment is signed by Bose.
Regarding safety, it has technologies such as adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go function, blind spot warning monitor, lane departure warning, frontal collision mitigation system and rear cross traffic alert, among others.
Now, turning to mechanics, the Mitsubishi Colt arrives in Europe with three engines. The access step falls on a 1.0-liter MPI three-cylinder engine with 65 Hp, associated with a five-speed manual gearbox.
In the intermediate part, there is the turbocharged version of the aforementioned three-cylinder, which raises power to 90 horsepower. In this case, the transmission is a 6-speed manual. Finally, in the upper echelon lies a hybrid system that combines a 1.6-liter engine with two electric generators.. The joint power is 145 Hp and the 1.2 kWh lithium-ion battery allows it to circulate in the urban cycle 80% of the time in electric mode.
The Mitsubishi Colt is positioned in Europe above the Space Star (Mirage) and will reach dealers from October this year. Its manufacture will be carried out in a Renault plant located in Türkiye.
It is almost a fact that this Colt will not leave Europe, so it is difficult for us to see it in Mexico. Even so, it would be interesting to sell it in our country, especially the hybrid version, since it would be one of the few subcompact HEVs in our market.
