Nio has just introduced a new 500 kW ultra-fast charging station and has improved its battery swap station
Faced with the “inconveniences” that charging electric cars entails, the Chinese manufacturer of electric cars and technology company Nio focuses its bet on battery exchange stations for its cars. We have already told you about it, but now the company has filed a new ultra-fast charging station with 500 kW maximum power and 650 current amps.
The DC charger is capable of charging a long-range electric vehicle (100 kWh battery) from 10 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes. It has a liquid-cooled charging cable, which drastically reduces its weight and facilitates its manual use. This super-fast charging area will be open to other brands of electric cars, adds the company.

Of course it has to be a vehicle powered by an 800V platform to obtain the maximum rate, as are all Nio models, the Porsche Taycan, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 or the Kia EV6.
The maximum charging power of the Nio charger outperforms rival Chinese brand Xpeng, which launched the S4 Supercharger in August 2022 with a maximum load of 480 kW and a maximum current of 670 amps. This is a spectacular figure if we take into account that until recently the most powerful chargers reached “only” up to 350 kW.
As we mentioned at the beginning of this article, Nio is also famous in China (in a few months it will reach Europe with this technology) for its battery exchange stations. Thus, in the same act in which the 500 kW DC charger was presented, has unveiled the design of a third-generation battery swap stationwhich increases capacity to 408 exchanges a day, 30 percent more than announced to date.

This type of stations are highly automated for Nio products, and use a summon and trade feature that takes advantage of laser radars and two Nvidia OrinX chips. In this way, Nio is selling the batteries associated with this service, with which the client has an electric car with the batteries always updated.
