Porsche has been making really special cars for many years, which enhance the sensations while driving and offer a high level of driving enjoyment. They have adapted to the times and have begun their electrified era, but they have not left their long tradition behind either. The most recent test is Porsche 718 Spyder RS, a creation that is an authentic ode to the central engine in a convertible format. In addition, it has one of the most special blocks and one that will probably have to be fired soon.
Just three decades after the presentation of the first Boxster prototype, its top-of-the-range version mounts the engine of the Porsche 911 GT3 in a central position. That 4.0-litre naturally aspirated boxer six-cylinder It is an endangered species capable of reaching surprising numbers. It reaches 9,000 rpm while its 500 hp and 450 Nm of torque push the rear axle. It can only go with the PDK automatic transmission, so the two-seater roadster accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds or from 0 to 200 km/h in 10.9 seconds, with a top speed of 308 km/h.
As you can see, it is much faster than the “non-RS” Porsche 718 Spyder. But not only that, it is also 40 kg lighter than its version with the PDK gearbox and 5 kg lighter than the 718 Cayman GT4 RS in coupé format. To get to your barely 1,410kg, an intensive use of light materials has been made. The roof weighs just 18.3kg and is fully removable, you could even leave the top at home to save another 8kg. It has a carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) hood and improves its aerodynamics with details such as the NACA air intakes, the side deflectors, the front splitter or the duck-tail spoiler.
In this way, it promises an exemplary behavior, which is improved by the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) that comes as standard, along with Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with a mechanical limited-slip differential. Almost everything can be individually adjusted (height, tire camber, track or anti-roll bar) and has its own settings, suitable for a convertible. With the optional package Weissach It will add elements such as forged wheels, a sports exhaust system made of titanium and exclusive upholstery.
Because the interior of the Porsche 718 Spyder RS is not far behind thanks to elements such as the carbon sports seats with mixed upholstery, the RS sports steering wheel covered with Race-Tex or the specific logos at various points. Something so exclusive had to have a price to match the circumstances and the convertible with that purist central engine is offered in our country from 180,080 euros.
