Car brands are continually investigating the development of new models. There are some that we see in the form of concept cars or prototypes and others that remain hidden in the headquarters of the manufacturers and that they can be made known or not.
Porsche is a perfect example. The German brand has a series of concepts that never saw the light until years later. Cars that were engineering test beds, design studies, or even nearly made it to production, but were canceled at the last moment.

This is the case of a Porsche concept car of which we have just learned some other detail. Before Porsche introduced a Boxster and a Cayman with a flat four, there was another vehicle being developed as a successor to the 918.
In an interview with the head of synthetic fuels at Porsche, Marcos Marques, it has been revealed that the brand was working on a Porsche Cayman with a five-liter capacity engine, eight cylinders, two turbos and nothing less than 750 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque. All this with a rev limit of 9,000 rpm and connected to a manual gearbox
It had to be a perfect continuation to models of such substance as the Porsche Carrera GT and Porsche 918 Spyder. Finally, did not go aheadalthough a Cayman with a four-cylinder engine was produced.

It was suddenly canceled during development, even as road tests were taking place around the factory. Simply it was not seen as the right car for Porsche at the time.
“At heart we are an engineering company and we are always looking for new answers, different solutions, and sometimes those answers are not needed at the moment. But all of that is part of the engineering process. It is what makes Porsche unique as a car company,” said Marques. A pity, because it had traces of having become a legendary supercar.
