A dream wink, this is the headline that Ferry Porsche would give this article. Ferry’s dream vehicle the 356 is modernized, the convertible coupé of the collective imagination applies the same logic to the development of the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster. A concept car that borders on technological excellence but that keeps Porsche’s most primitive DNA in its genes.
This new prototype is a variant of the closed Porsche Vision 357, it is based on the Porsche 718 GT4 e-Performance and its batteries and technology falls from the Mission R; its chassis comes directly from the Clubsport version of the aforementioned 718 GT4. And of course, it will have a world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Exterior design
The prototype has a lowered and shortened windshield, typical of speedsters, which further highlights the shape of its body. On the right side it incorporates a type cover tonneau, in the style of some classic convertibles. At the back is the cover for the charging socket and the hood anchorage.
The two-tone coat of paint, marble gray and metallic Grivelo grey, is inspired by the historical precursors of motor racing. The front fenders and front wings of the 357 Speedster are painted in Grivelo Gray Metallic, a darker shade, to protect against stone chips. The front wheels are also that color. In addition, Miami blue contrasts are used, for example, on the quick-release mechanisms of the wraparound bonnet.
He anniversary logo, with the number “75” and the years “1948” and “2023”, comes in Grivelo gray metallic and Miami blue, different from the red decorative elements of the Vision 357 coupé. There are comic-style unicorns located in front of the rear wheels , designed specifically for this concept car. Also mirrors replaced exterior by cameras located in the wheel arches, to provide a cleaner appearance and add to the technological contribution of the 357 Speedster.
Other details of the exterior design are similar to the coupé version: the front has a signature four light points rounded that evoke the Porsche 356. The rear lights are located behind points milled in the body itself. The rear grille features a vertical pattern, referencing the original Porsche models. The third brake light is integrated into the design of that grille.
The 20 inch wheels They are made of magnesium and have hubs and central closures made of carbon fiber. These rims also echo legendary Porsche wheels, such as those on the 356 A and 356 B with drum brakes, which had a 205-millimeter diameter bolt circle.
Interior design
The interior design is reduced to the most purist and simplistic possible. It is a minimalist position adapted to the driver. The driving position is as low as possible and the lucky driver will rest on Racetex-coated pads while being secured to the seat by a Miami blue six-point safety harness. The instrumentation is located on the column steering wheel on a transparent surface crowned by a competition steering wheel that inspires lightness.
The entire front panel has a carbon weave finish. As an alternative to the traditional glove box, the Miami blue straps in the upper right section can be used as hangers in a pinch and detail, and to save weight, the door handles have been replaced with fabric straps.
