Red Bull did not exactly have its best day in Brazil. He didn’t have it because Max Verstappen decided to skip team orders for no reason As for Sergio Pérez, and in the end everything was difficult for them not being able to celebrate a first and a second place in the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship.
Now, months later, Christian Horner has pointed out who was largely responsible for all the chaos that took place that day, which also led to a tremendous attack from the Aztec to the Dutch and that he was about to destroy the entire party of the title of ‘Mad Max’.
And it is that Verstappen, whom Red Bull gave him the ‘OK’, to pass Pérez and attack those above, he did not return sixth place to the Mexican despite the fact that from the wall they told him that if he was not able to overtake Alonso he should do so.
It was not like that, and in Abu Dhabi finally Pérez could not get the result that would have led him to finish ahead of Charles Leclerc in the World Cup.
Now, in words on ‘Formula1.com’, Horner clarifies everything that happened.
“It was a mistake on our part”
“We never took into account that we could be sixth and seventh in the last laps of Brazil. It was a mistake on our part,” he says.
And he explains: “We should have gone through all the scenarios. It was a team mistake. It is a pity”.
“It was discussed quickly. The pilots were clear and honest. From there we progressed as a team, and the dynamics between pilots is very good”, he says in words also collected in ‘GPfans’.
“Verstappen’s season was from another planet”
Horner, to finish, sticks out his chest for Verstappen: “His last season was from another planet. We will not let a few laps in Brazil define everything”.
