The Ganvam employers foresee that by the end of this 2023 more than 900,000 new passenger cars will have been registered and that a year later that barrier of one million units will be exceeded again.

The crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic hit countless sectors and, of course, the automotive market was no stranger to it. So much so that new car sales around the world fell to levels that no one could have imagined in the midst of the digital, connected and electrified age. As if that were not enough, the scenario led to another semiconductor crisis and bottlenecks related to transportation that still affect distribution today. However, it is expected that little by little things will go up until reaching the long-awaited pre-pandemic figures. In this sense, the Ganvam vendors’ association has just made public some forecasts that, if true, would surely reassure more than one concession.

The fact is that, according to the data handled by Ganvam, it is expected that this year registrations close with an increase of 16%, which would mean the sale of some 944,000 units. “It will be in 2024 when the numbers once again exceed the million car barrier,” they say.

All pending inflation

Undoubtedly, this recovery depends on the evolution of the European economyas well as other contexts among which we would mention the war in Ukraine or the scarcity of microchips itself (something that should improve with the construction of factories in Europe). In any case, the employers warn that this demand will find its limit in a offer that, after the strong tensions suffered in both the logistics and component supply chains, will gradually recover its rhythm.

Nor should we forget that some other factors, such as the entry into force of the Euro 7 regulation starting in 2025 for passenger cars and light commercials, it will increase the prices of the models and could somehow slow down the mentioned recovery.

Refering to electrical transition, Ganvam is another of the actors who consider it absolutely unlikely that in 2035 100% of our car park will be made up of pure electric or plug-in hybrids. Among his estimates, they manage that, in 2030, around 21% of passenger car registrations could be electrified models. “Although the trend will continue to rise, everything points to the need to incorporate accelerator measures to achieve objectives,” they indicate.
