If there is an unstoppable trend, in addition to that of SUV bodies, it is that of cars with the air of a coupe. Although there are hardly any two and three-door models left of those that flooded the roads in past decades, they try to adapt their shapes to the times. Models like the Skoda Enyaq Coupe They are proof that aesthetics is the factor that weighs the most in buying a car. We have tested it and it is announced from a price of 53,200 euros in our country.
Like the rest of the recent electrics of the Volkswagen Group, sits on the MEB platform. It is a cousin of the Volkswagen ID.5 and Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback, with whom it shares many components. Although he always gives himself an extra touch of personality, in this case even more notably. If the Skoda Enyaq already drew attention for its design, the coupe version is positioned as the most attractive electric of the range. It does so while maintaining most of its capabilities and with various mechanical options.
Abroad
As usually happens in these models with the Coupé surname, in this Skoda Enyaq the base of the original is maintained and the notable changes appear from the B pillar. Still, the front end has a lot of personality thanks to the Crystal Face that comes as standard. That means we have a fully lit grill thanks to 131 LED lights that achieve a futuristic and eye-catching effect at night. The lighting can be completed with optional Matrix Full-LED headlights, while the bumpers change.
It becomes more noticeable in the Sportline and RS versions, which have contrasting elements in black, as well as various trims or a suspension that lowers its height. The tires range from 19 to 21 inches, being the top of the range aerodynamics that improve their performance. It should be mentioned that in the Enyaq Coupé, the panoramic roof comes as standard and that the color palette is varied and has very prominent options.
As we said, from pillar B begins its transformation. The shapes are much more dynamic thanks to that steep roof drop reminiscent of the coupes of yesteryear. There is a sloping rear window that slightly worsens rear visibility and leads to a kind of spoiler over the tailgate. The taillights have a familiar shape and the diffuser takes on sportier shapes. In this vehicle, the aerodynamic coefficient has been reduced to 0.234 Cx, one of the best in the segment.
This Skoda Enyaq Coupé changes its dimensions slightly with respect to the SUV from which it starts. stays in one 4,653mm length, with a width of 2,148 mm and a height of 1,622 mm. The wheelbase remains at 2,765 mm. in summary, slightly longer and lower than the Enyaq.
Inside
He inside of the Skoda Enyaq Coupé stands out for several aspects. The first is the good quality with which it has been made. Logically, it is more noticeable in the top-of-the-range versions, since the RS boasts sports seats, which are the best we’ve seen in an SUV. Because of its balance and also because of the feel of its upholstery, which has contrasting seams and details. Other details that convince in the model is the dashboard trimthe moldings or the good construction of the plastics.
Offered with some sustainable materials to make more obvious its commitment to the environment. They talk about this car recycling 13.1 kg of used plastic, as well as 40% of the steel and 60% of the aluminum in its construction or 20% of the glass in its windows. Some custom made seat covers are included with the Lodge package. with wool and PET bottles recycled. Other upholstery is produced without chromium sulphate based chemicals.
Technology is not far behind in electric, which integrates a 13 inch touch screen serial. It is the largest of the brand and has the latest version of the ME3 software. It stands out for its quick response and its easy handling, although it is true that it includes too many functions. Among them are the climate controls, because there are no physical buttons for it. It is less intuitive and requires several clicks on the screen to make some changes. We still do not approve of this trend.
The 5.3-inch digital instrumentation The truth is that it feels somewhat small if we compare it with the main screen or with others from the competition. Although we forget when we see the Optional Head-Up Display, which helps you not take your eyes off the road so much and focus on driving. The on-board computer, despite its small size, displays the necessary information and is configurable through the multifunction steering wheel.
The connectivity It is very important in any self-respecting vehicle and here we have Android Auto or Apple CarPlay wirelessly. To complete the experience, the Phone Box is added to charge the mobile phone (optional in the basic finishes). Other details worth mentioning are the Canton sound system with 12 speakers or the good number of driving assistance systems that the Enyaq Coupé has to its credit.
Another goodness of this model is its habitability. Above all, it offers a very spacious second row of seats. Despite the drop in ceiling there is plenty of headroom and plenty of legroom. Highlight some detail like the removable slide which can go in the transmission tunnel when fifth place is not used. In the mark, compare it with that of a Skoda Octavia Combi and it maintains air conditioning outlets and connections behind it.
Trunk
The trunk has always been a strong point of the Skoda, although logically in a coupe-shaped body it is affected. Are 570 liter capacity, 15 less than the conventional SUV, but still very prominent. You can not miss the opening of the electric gate and a very generous loading mouthalthough it is at a fairly high altitude.
There are also others Simply Clever details Skoda’s own. The side compartment is very usable in an electric car to carry the charging cable perfectly tucked away. There is some space under the floor, lighting on this surface and hooks to fix the load. To get its full potential, the rear seats can be folded in two parts to achieve a capacity of up to 1,610 liters.
Engine
The mechanical range of the Skoda Enyaq Coupé is quite extensive. we have until four power levels and two batteries to offer the customer tailored solutions. A permanent magnet synchronous electric motor that drives the rear axle is always set as the basis. However, in the higher-end versions, a second electric motor to move the front axle and get all-wheel drive.
| Version | Power | Battery | Autonomy | Price |
| 60 | 180 hp | 58 kWh | 400km | €53,200 |
| 80 | 204 hp | 77 kWh | 550km | €58,600 |
| sport line 80 | 204 hp | 77 kWh | 550km | €61,100 |
| 80 4×4 | 265 hp | 77 kWh | 530km | €61,100 |
| RS | 300 hp | 77 kWh | 520km | €64,600 |
The access version battery offers 58 kWh. With its 180 CV, it establishes a base of 400 kilometers of autonomy at a price that can become attractive using the discounts. The rest come with the battery 77 kWhwith powers that range between 204 and 300 hp, while the maximum autonomy can be up to 550 kilometers in the case of the Enyaq Coupé 80, precisely the version we tested.
Behavior
The Skoda Enyaq Coupé 80 that we had in hand has a 204 hp engine and 310 Nm of torque which freely pushes the rear axle. There is an 80 4×4 version with a little more power, but for those who want to take a real leap, we will always recommend the top-of-the-range RS. In any case, this version is the most balanced of the range due to its power level and also because it offers a very outstanding autonomy.
In the first meters you can already see that the 204 CV are enough to move freely despite heavy weight that has an electric SUV of these dimensions. In the end they are more than two tons (2,149 kg specifically), which does not make it a precisely agile car, but which does not make it out of tune either. If we look at its technical sheet we find an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds and a maximum speed that is limited to 160 km/h, within the average.
We did a route of about 100 kilometers through Madrid and its surroundings. From the beginning he appeared as a fairly efficient vehicle, it seems that by taking care of the right foot a little, consumption could be made quite low. Although the approved autonomy easily exceeds 500 kilometers, we calculate that in real life it will be possible to around 470 kilometers with a charge.
When recharging it offers several options. With this 77 kWh battery you can do it in alternating current at speeds up to 11 kWh (previously it stayed at 7.4 kW), so the recharging time is reduced to seven and a half hours. On the other hand, accept fast charges up to 135 kW, with what it would take to get from 10 to 80% around 29 minutes.
We can also resort to other “tricks” to extend its autonomy. This Skoda Enyaq Coupé has three levels of energy recovery with which you can play. Even with the adaptive regeneration Variables such as traffic signs or surrounding vehicles are taken into account so that the car slows down only as needed. As in other models, the driving modes are also maintained Eco, Normal, Comfort, Sport and Individual; they change behavior slightly.
Of the chassis we will say that it’s pure balance. A little more comfort is sought than sportiness, but in the Sportline and RS versions the DCC is added as standard and that always helps. The most important thing is the above-average ride quality thanks to the suspension setting (McPherson on the front axle and rear multi-link) and also a non-communicative steering, but easy to operate. The last, but not least, thing to note is the high driving comfort that you get in this copy. Silence on board is well achieved thanks to the soundproofing work of the Czech brand.
Opinion cars.com
The Skoda Enyaq Coupé was a natural move by the manufacturer to reach a more aspirational customer. They seek to dazzle with that more fluid and sporty design, in addition to convincing with more complete standard equipment. Otherwise, takes an already very complete base such as the Enyaq, of which we highlight details such as the spaciousness of the interior, the generous trunk or the above-average driving comfort in its test.
If it is true that it also has some negative aspect such as that its autonomy can suffer with low temperatures or that it is not given to many joys while driving. Not to mention a starting price of 53,200 euros which is somewhat above average. However, it is worth noting that during launch the Coupe costs the same than the conventional Enyaq (with the same version) and that you can always save something at coches.com thanks to its new vehicle offers, its leasing or financing.
