Stellantis launches in the models of its brands a function that will warn of the presence of emergency vehicles… even if you don’t see them.

More than 1.8 million vehicles of the Stellantis brands in the United States (Chrysler, Dodge, Ram and Jeep) have just launched a new function, based on the cloud, that allows drivers to know the presence of emergency vehicles before they can even see them.

This function, which has been implemented via an OTA (over the air) updatewill facilitate the location of police vehicles, fire trucks or ambulances, vehicles that are sometimes involved in traffic accidents because other drivers do not see their flashing lights or do not hear the emergency sirens.

It arose at the request of an employee with hearing problems

When emergency crews activate your vehicle’s flashers, a signal is sent to the HAAS Alert Safety Cloud, which begins tracking your location. Stellantis vehicles equipped with the emergency vehicle alert system receive an audible and text alert on the screen infotainment if an emergency vehicle is approaching from any direction.

The alert can be issued up to 30 seconds in advanceeven in blind corners, and helps reduce the risk of a collision by up to 90 percent.

Stellantis’ Emergency Vehicle Alert System (EVAS) is one of the first applications of “vehicle-to-everything” (V2X) technology, which allows vehicles to “talk” to each other and to the infrastructure around them. With V2X, cars will soon be able to share important information about weather, road conditions, traffic, etc.

In this way, Stellantis is the First car manufacturer in the world to include V2X digital alert as standard in its infotainment system uconnect. In this update it has been added to vehicles dating from the year 2018 via an over-the-air software update.

To activate it, owners must register with Uconnect and then agree to share the location of your vehicle, something that, apart from benefiting from emergency vehicle alert, can help recover the car in case of theft, according to Stellantis.

The function, as explained by Stellantis herself, arose from the suggestion of a company employee with hearing problems that he had a terrifying experience driving an emergency vehicle that he had not heard coming.
