The Briton finished 16th and his long run pace was nowhere near that of his competitors. And given the situation, Hamilton was very honest about how the day went: “I wasn’t feeling well at all.the car was at its worstbut we’ll work on the setup overnight.”
“Last year it felt terrible and then we got better with some setup changes. So we’ll work and hopefully feel better,” he said positively.
In addition to charging against the Mercedes, Hamilton also did so against the new qualifying format, which conditions them for free practice: “We only had one tire to use in this session. This change they made is not a large format. It just means we run less.”
This format implies a reduction in the number of tires used per Grand Prix, an argument that does not convince the seven-time champion: “It is not ideal. There are many rain tires that are thrown away every weekend. This is how we take time away from the fans“.
