The Chevrolet Corvette is one of the longest-lived sports cars in history. Seven decades have passed since his debut and he has always remained faithful to his philosophy. Yet now times change by leaps and bounds and the American firm has been forced to make some modifications to keep it on the market for years to come. Hence we see something as special as the Chevrolet Corvette E-Raythe first electrified and all-wheel drive variant in the entire existence of this specimen.
Available both in the coupé body with a sunroof and in the convertible with a hardtop, this model debuts the eAWD system to be the first to abandon the propulsion to adopt the four wheel drive electrified. That makes their benefits improve considerably, in fact it has the title of being the fastest production Corvette in history. To achieve this, combine the 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8 (Small Block LT2) that has under the hood with an electric motor to drive the front axle.
The electrified part is provided by that 120 kW motor, but also by a small 1.9 kWh battery. That translates to the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray getting a joint power of 655 hp. Also that its benefits promise, and a lot, although it has not yet received the approval. There is talk of an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and complete the quarter mile in 10.5 seconds. In addition, this hybrid supercar has other advantages of all-wheel drive and new driving modes.
For example, launch the Stealth Mode, with which it could move electric at speeds of up to 72 km/h. It maintains the rest of the driving modes (Tour, Sport, Track, Weather, My Mode and Z-Mode), while adding the Charge+ function to maximize battery charge. By the way, the Corvette E-Ray is not pluggable, the battery is recharged by coasting and braking.
At the chassis level, it comes standard with a carbon-ceramic braking system signed by Brembo or by the suspension Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 with its three adjustments. The wheels are 20 inches in front and 21 inches in the rear and are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport as standard. Interestingly it is slightly wider (+9 cm) than the Corvette Stingray. In addition, work has been done on the sound experience, so that the electric motor goes in harmony with the combustion one. The driving aids improve and are more complete in this model.
in terms of design, the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray respects the characteristic lines of the model and releases some details. The graphics with blue stripes are exclusive and the customization can be exemplary thanks to 14 exterior colours, four wheel finishes or carbon fiber elements. The interior of this version is the exclusive Artemis Dipped, with contrasting deep green tones. This model goes on sale this year in the United States from $104,295 the coupe version and $111,295 for the convertible.
