Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV 2024, the plug-in hybrid hornet that completes the range

Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV 2024, the plug-in hybrid hornet that completes the range

If Stellantis has been in charge of something, it is to retire and revive models. In the first case, there have been some “muscular ones” who have gone into retirement, and in the second, names like the Dodge Hornet have resurfaced with arguments of SUVs and electrification; it was logical that with the current power of the group, different models of all its brands would obtain benefits.

The most current cases are found in the Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV and the Dodge Hornet PHEV, two SUVs that, after their launches as combustion models, debut as a pair of plug-in hybrids that share the same architecture. But we have already told you a lot about Tonale, so let’s pay attention to the new Hornet PHEV 2024.

2024 Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV: Mechanics

To the Hornet GT variant that uses a 2.0-liter turbo engine with 268 Hp, the Hornet R/T PHEV equipped with a 1.3-liter engine assisted by an electric motor that will be integrated as standard in three trim levels. The final configuration of this hybrid variant is as follows:

  • Engine: 1.3 L turbocharged with electric assistance
  • Power: 121 Hp
  • Battery: 15.5 kWh lithium-ion
  • Electric autonomy: Up to 51 km
  • Combined range: 579 km
  • Total Power: 288 Hp
  • 0-100 km/h: 5.6 sec.
  • PowerShot mode: +30 Hp

The aforementioned function injects energy into the Hornet R/T for 15 seconds helping it reduce its timestamps. A very “Mopar” touch that, although it does not emanate muscular smells or sounds, “homages” a bit to the R/T legacy. For practical purposes, the PowerShot will assist in passing, entering lanes or recoveries.

2024 Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV: Trim Levels

Both the GT and the R/T versions will share three equipment packages, this after Dodge decided not to limit them to each version, so the customer may have the option to choose:

  • Black Top Pack: Includes 18-inch Abyss wheels, gloss black logos, badging and trim.
  • Track Pack: It will have 20” wheels, adjustable suspension, red calipers, Alcantara upholstered seats and aluminum details for the passenger compartment.
  • Tech Pack: It integrates driving assistance such as highway assist, traffic recognition, fatigue detector, parking sensors, 360° camera, etc.

Dodge has confirmed that what will be optional will be some amenities, as well as some luxury and comfort components:

  • Electric leather-trimmed seats
  • Harman Kardon sound system
  • Sliding roof
  • Tailgate with presence function
  • Wireless charger for phone (GT)
  • Heated steering wheel (GT)
  • Remote start (GT).

Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV 2024: Coming to Mexico?

With the arrival of the Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV in the national market, the door could be opened for Dodge to begin its electric journey in the country, although eventually there could be direct competition between two products of the group, which I think would not seem good to Stellantis. . If hypothetically it were the case $32,330 dollars would have to be prepared for the Hornet GT version and $42,500 dollars for the Hornet R/T.

Which one would you buy?
