“We put the car on the ground… and it bounced like a rabbit,” is how Mercedes describes its 2022 tests

Mercedes has had one more than busy year in this 2022. The reason, that tremendous ‘porpoising’ suffered by both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell at the beginning of the course in which little seemed to be that car that he had dominated since 2014, and also that with which the Englishman was left without a title in the last race.

Because the rule change made them dust. Because they didn’t expect what happened… until they put the car on the track.

“As soon as we put the car on the ground, in winter testing, that thing bounced like a rabbit”, Toto Wolff account in your course balance.

And he continues: “We arrived in Bahrain. In time per lap we were not that far… but the other races until Budapest they were trial and error”.

Wolff insists: “In four months you don’t take a pill and suddenly you become totally incompetent, and you go from winning a World Cup and in March having a car that is too slow.

“You have to keep calm. Trust in your organization and your values… It was a positive factor for better performance,” says Wolff.

The Austrian believes that calm was key to improving in the second part of the course: “We did better in Austin and in Mexico, and in Brazil, where we win by our merit”.
