Fernando Alonso is enjoying like never before Formula 1. With a Aston Martin Competitive, he has been seen again at the top of the standings many seasons later and is giving ample evidence of his talent with incredible overtaking.
These movements have already allowed win two overtaking of the month trophies. He took the first (March 1) thanks to the magnificent pass in Bahrain that he made to lewis hamilton and now he has received the prize of the month of April for the action in which he beat Carlos Sainz in Baku.
The prizes are awarded based on an audience vote in which anyone can participate. Alonso himself voted in the survey, but he did not do it for him, but for his teammate Lance Stroll who was nominated for his advancement to Alex Albón in the Azerbaijan sprint.
Not voting for himself did not prevent the ’14’ from winning the award for the second time in a row and, moreover, he did so forcefully. The Spanish won with more than 50% of the votes.
“I remember. It was after the restart, when the safety car came in and it was a time to risk. That lap was important to have clean air. It’s good that my name is in the first two months of the championship,” said Alonso upon receiving the award.
In addition, he assured that he will prepare new “movements” to continue taking the prize: “Now we have some races in May, so I’ll prepare some moves to keep my name there. Thank you very much to all the fans.”
Alonso will not only have the Miami GP to make overtaking again that deserve to repeat the award. In this month of May it will also have the races of Imola and Monaco to add a third straight win for the overtaking of the month award.
