Many years have passed since the first rumors about the possible creation of a Tesla Gigafactory in Spain. The arrival of a production center is always good news for the national industry, even more so if we are talking about a high-volume one and electrified models. However, the subject had cooled down until now, which seems to be revived again. Some sources say that the next Tesla factory has a chance of falling to our country and that the most probable place would be Valencia.
So says the newspaper Five dayswhat’s wrong with it information about a negotiation between the American firm and the government of the Generalitat Valenciana. Previously, there were also rumors in other media about a possible multi-million dollar investment by a multinational in the area. The fact is that this path seems to have opened up again and that it could also be something big at an industrial level. There is even talk of a investment greater than that being made by the Volkswagen Group in its battery factory in Sagunto, which will initially cost 3,000 million euros, expandable up to 4,500 million.
Relatively recently, the President of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, spoke about open negotiations with ten large companies to carry investments worth 24,400 million euros, together with the creation of 43,000 direct jobs. If Tesla’s arrival in Valencia is confirmed, we would be facing a new center of the Spanish automobile industry, taking into account the arrival of the Volkswagen Group in Sagunto and with the Almussafes plant almost ready for the production of electric vehicles. In addition, it would mean for the Americans their second Gigafactory on European soil, after the one in Berlin.
If the German factory is taken as a reference, the truth is that the investment was around 5,000 million dollars and has a production capacity of 500,000 cars per year. In addition, Tesla is in a sweet moment, being the main electric manufacturer worldwide with 1.31 million units in the past year 2022. It also highlights its aggressive discount policy, which are around 24% and which has made its Model 3 lower its price below 40,000 euros. We will be awaiting the evolution of this project, because it would be very welcome news for the sector.
