Medvedev regrets his unfortunate behavior in Australia: “It was not smart”

Daniel Medvedev lost last year’s Australian Open final to Rafael Nadal. A match that he had won… and that the Balearic tennis player ended up coming back. Undoubtedly one of the most difficult moments of his career. And he had no qualms about paying it off with the public.

Not just in that game. It happened throughout the tournament. The Russian faced the stands and even said that some had a “low IQ”. Now he regrets that behavior at the gates of the tournament in 2023.

“Of the 13,000 that were there, because the stadium was packed, this comment was maybe for 50 people at most, so that’s the first thing,” said Daniil.

And he apologizes assuring that “wasn’t smart”: “And this comment was probably not smart of me. But when you come out of the game, like Nick did, you sometimes say things like an hour later… ‘why did I say this?’ Maybe in the first place isn’t true, and then you think it was stupid,” he says.

Regarding his defeat in the final, he stresses that it was an absolutely terrible moment: “I felt absolutely devastated. The thing about life and tennis is that you have to get over it, try to learn from what happens to you because you can’t change the last”.

Medvedev will play again in the Rod Laver Arena one year later. And he wants to reconcile with an audience with which he had his ups and downs in 2022. Will the fans have forgiven him? In just a few days we will leave doubts with his first match on Australian soil.
