“The water was up to our necks”

Tuesday’s stage in the Dakar had to be suspended due to strong rains. Medical helicopters were unable to fly and some cars got stuck in floodwaters.

It was the case of Christina Gutierrezwhose car was ‘attacked’ by water and had to be rescued: “The stage has been crazy, very dangerous”.

“There have been storms all day and we have had the bad luck of crossing at the worst moment. The river crossing was marked as without water, but when we passed Chaleco and I, who were sticking together, we have stayed in the middle“, he explained.

The water got into the car in a very short time: “In a matter of three minutes the water has reached my neck Chaleco has already covered the entire car”.

His car went completely crazy when the water entered it: “The electronic follies of the car began, first with a sensor that put the car in protection mode, then the windshield wipers stopped working.”

Gutiérrez lived a true nightmare on stage number 3. lost almost two hours with respect to the leader and, above all, he was scared to death with the water entering his car.
