The Association of Entities for the Technical Inspection of Vehicles of the Community of Madrid asks the administrations that the cameras that identify the environmental sticker in the ZBE do the same with the ITV badge.
From the beginning of this new 2023 it is mandatory that in all Spanish municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants there is at least one Low Emission Zone, access to which is controlled by cameras that check whether, in effect, the user is allowed to enter the based on the environmental label of your car. Well, taking into account that, according to the Association of Entities for the Technical Inspection of Vehicles of the Community of Madrid (AEMA-ITV), four out of every 10 cars registered in the capital do not have said procedure in order, the body that encompasses all the inspection centers of the CAM has requested the City Council to LEZ cameras also check the ITV sticker. In this way, the administrations could penalize in a much simpler and more effective way all those drivers who circulate without the ITV in force.

Failure to pass the ITV carries a fine of up to €500
In addition to the ZBE of the Central District and Plaza Elíptica, both the lanes of the M30 and those that give access to the interior perimeter of the city are under video surveillance so that cars without a DGT badge cannot use the ring road main road in Madrid or cross it without facing a significant penalty. This is required by the Climate Change and Energy Transition Law approved by the Government of Sánchez.
Therefore, if an agreement is reached between AEMA-ITV and the Consistory, practically all the cars without ITV that transit from the M30 inland they would be hunted by the cameras without the need for any agent to stop them or be aware of the infraction.
«Having the environmental sticker conferred by Traffic is not enough to guarantee that the vehicle’s emissions do not exceed the limits set by the regulations. It may happen that the pollutant emissions system is not working as it should, something that can only be checked at ITV stations«, points out as an argument the president of AEMA-ITV, Jorge Soriano.
