The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has chosen which are the best tires in size 205/55.
Choosing a tire for our car is something to which we must give the importance it deserves. This element is the one that puts our vehicle in contact with the road and, apart from its vital safety function, making the right purchase can give us significant advantages in durability, performance or consumption reduction.
To help us make the decision, the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has carried out a comparison between 49 models of 205/55 tiresone of the most popular measures between compact cars and sedans, and has detected differences in their duration of more than 40,000 km.
Variations in tire life of up to 42,700 km

This organization has carried out a series of tests to verify the safety of the aforementioned 49 tyres, such as measure braking distance in wet and dry conditions and at different speedspass the aquaplaning test or check the grip in curves.
The best model in dry braking managed to brake in 36 meters at 100 km/h, while the worst stopped the vehicle in five more meters, that is to say 41 m. When the asphalt is wet, these figures rise and the inequalities between the best and the worst tires are accentuated, with up to 12 meters of difference when braking at 80 km/h.
A section in which an important difference has been seen has been durability. According to the OCU, there are variations in the useful life of the tires of up to 42,700 km, the worst rubber being able to travel about 24,000 km and the best having a useful life of 65,700 km. In this sense, the consumer organization warns that “cheap can be expensive”.

Finally, the OCU has chosen, in its opinion, two tires as “master purchases”. He Continental Premium Contact 6 it is the first one. With a price starting at 92 euros, it stands out for its excellent handling and stability in the wet. At the same height is the Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2with a starting price of 81 euros, which has been valued very positively for its duration (65,700 km), its price and its low environmental impact.
