He Bentley S2 Continental It is a real rarity in the automotive world. Only four units of this specimen were made, which stood out for its level of luxury and its benefits. It was powered by a 6.2-liter V8 gasoline engine that was one of the highlights of the late 50s. Now one of those units has become the Weirdest Classic Ever Transformed To Electric in a totally handmade process and very striking to improve many aspects.
Lunaz Design has been in charge of making this striking reconversion. The British company is no stranger to this type of work, as it has already done similar work with an Aston Martin DB6, a classic Range Rover and even another Bentley, the S3 Continental Flying Spur. Is about a kind of restomod, a restoration with modifications to make it up to date. In this case, the most interesting thing is the electric propulsion system that improves the performance of the original.
This Bentley S2 Continental develops 405 hp and 719 Nm of torque, so it is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. In fact, they have had to make additional modifications to cope with the increase in power. This translates into the incorporation of a new coil spring suspension with adjustable dampers or a more capable braking system (six-piston calipers front and four rear) with energy regeneration. No details of the battery are given, but they ensure that all its components are from first-rate European suppliers.
The unit on which it is based was manufactured in 1961 and, although it was going to be a four-door, its owner finally commissioned the London coachbuilder James Young a two-door body. In the following years it changed hands until reaching this current restoration process. To carry it out, Lunaz Design technicians use pioneering techniques such as 3D scanning to create detailed computer-aided design (CAD) models. In this way, the body remains as new and all its internal components are renewed.
That also applies to the interior of this Bentley S2 Continental, which is dressed in sustainable materials to adapt to the times. The upholstery is made of leather tanned with naturally fallen olive leaves, while the mats are made of recycled nylon fiber. It is also credited that all the wood trim that appears on the dashboard and other areas come from sustainable sources.
