Bad test day for Marc Márquez and for the Honda team. The one from Cervera, a great MotoGP champion who seeks to equal Valentino Rossi’s nine wins in motorcycling, he could barely set the 19th fastest time with a motorcycle that is far from the best.
Even the Catalan runner himself has confirmed it once you have gotten off your machine in the rehearsals of Portimao… and that has a clear message: Honda must improve yes or yes.
Because either he does it or the fight for the World Cup ends, something very complicated, as well as being able to fight either for winning or for achieving a pole or podium in some Grand Prix.
They are far, far away: “Comparing us with Ducati we are way behind. We lose at least half a second per lap…”
“But behind them is a very large group. They we don’t have them for a long time”, account Marquez.
In this sense, Marc recounts the plan they had during the training day: “It wasn’t bad in the morning, but in the afternoon we tried a lot of important things and I got a little lost.”
“When you test concepts so different can happen. It happened in Sepang,” says Marc.
Márquez already wants to continue with the rehearsals: “We will stop trying new great concepts, and we will work with what we have to get the most out of it”.
