Genesis already sells in Europe the only SUV in the world, the GV60, which has facial recognition to enter the vehicle.
Many car enthusiasts maintain that modern automobiles are turning into mobile phones on wheels… and they are right. Gradually, we see that manufacturers are implementing solutions that we already enjoy in our smartphone on their new models.
The latest example is brought to us by Hyundai’s luxury brand, Genesis, which already sells a vehicle in Europe that incorporates facial recognition among its features. This is the Genesis GV60, an SUV that is already being marketed in some markets on the Old Continent, although not yet in Spain, and, like some mobile phones, it “unlocks”, that is, it opens, when it recognizes the face of the driver.
It is unlocked by recognizing its owner’s face.

The system, called Face Connect, distinguishes the owner from another person through the use of biometric data, initially taken when the owner scans his face with the key in the car to confirm that the car is his. There is also a fingerprint backupin case there is a problem and the car does not “recognize” you, something that sometimes also happens in smartphones and is that the system uses the same technology as modern mobile phones to unlock their screens.

If you’re worried about someone taking your car, don’t worry. Genesis claims that the system is secure because it uses encrypted software. And when it comes to privacy, Genesis adds that all information is stored and managed through the car’s HMI system, rather than uploaded and stored remotely. In other words, only the car (and you) knows what your face looks like.
