An ad against Tesla’s autonomous driving system has slipped into the Super Bowl 2023 spots.

The Super Bowl, the final of the American Football League (NFL), is the most massive event on the planet and receives millions of audiences. Car brands (and other products) take advantage of the occasion to launch spectacular advertisements to present their most spectacular cars.

Tesla, unlike other automakers, has refrained from running expensive ads during the Super Bowl this year. However, Tesla showed up during the commercial break… even if he didn’t want to.

“Tesla’s FSD mode should be banned”

On the one hand, the software entrepreneur and billionaire Dan O’Dowd paid for an ad against Elon Musk’s company for its FSD (Full Self Driving) Tesla’s most advanced autonomous driving system.

The ad, which reportedly only aired in parts of the United States, shows a Tesla Model 3 that makes various mistakes driving around, among other things, a baby carriage and a children’s doll simulated on the road. Twice he asks why the transport authority NHTSA (the US DGT) allows FSD tests, and once, without further explanation, it is stated that 90 percent are in favor of banning them immediately.

According to the announcement, the FSD mode of Tesla cars endanger the lives of other road users and to pedestrians and demonstrates it with simulated collisions and crashes.

The 30-second clip, according to various sources, cost O’Dowd about $600,000 (more than half a million euros), but this is not the first time that the billionaire has targeted Tesla. A few years ago, O’Dowd founded the project “The Dawn Project”, which was born with the objective of “making computers safe for humanity”. This organization does not see it guaranteed in the case of Tesla.

Super Bowl 2023: these were the best car ads

“Tesla’s fully autonomous driving is a danger to the general public, thanks to misleading marketing and worryingly incompetent technology,” explains the founder of “The Dawn Project,” adding that Tesla’s FSD mode, still in testing, should be banned.
