a recyclable flyer of standardized design

Car manufacturers around the world strive to make their vehicles more eco friendly, which is why they now use more environmentally friendly materials than ever. Many probably don’t know it, but while almost every part of the car can be disassembled, reused, or recycled, steering wheels don’t get the same treatment at the end of a vehicle’s life. The steering wheel named “circle” (“Circle”) seeks to change that.

And why aren’t flyers recycled? Basically, it is due to their complex construction that they inevitably end up in scrap yards or landfills. But if they are not treated as they should be, can cause environmental problems. With more than 20 million vehicles reaching their operational cycle each year in the United States and Europe alone, you can surely imagine how this practice could escalate to the point of ending up causing a harmful impact on the environment.

Designed by Dominicbini Y Stu Cole, the steering wheel features a series of touch-sensitive (capacitive) surface controls to help drivers easily access various functions. Logically, the steering wheel is also made from recyclable materials as part of a contribution to the circular economy initiative. Because not only technically advanced, but also recyclabledesigned for a hypothetical world where manufacturers would use a standard steering wheel design.

This automotive steering wheel takes a different approach to the way it’s created. The approach it is based on is the principles of removing all waste and pollution from the start. This design ideology means that new steering wheel can be fully disassembled, repaired and recycled, helping to reduce landfill waste. Needless to say, the innovative “Cercle” steering wheel design was a winner of laiF Design Award for 2022, one of the most prestigious design awards.

In addition to this, the “Cercle” steering wheel comes in a standard “high quality” shape and incorporates simple controls with touch sensitive inputs and haptic feedback at your fingertips, as we said a few lines above. It also has a backlit logo in the center, two speakers (one on each side, as before) and arrow-shaped dials that activate the indicators. In the event of a malfunction, the internal technology can be changed in the same way as the external casing.
