BMW lights up Coldplay concerts with recycled batteries

At a time in the automotive industry in which care for the environment took a preponderant place, BMW partnered with Coldplay to power their performances from recycled batteries. On the “Music of Spheres World Tour”, the same with which the British band visited Mexico in 2022, BMW uses a modular energy storage system, made up of 40 recycled batteries from the BMW i3.

said system it has a maximum capacity of 1,600 kWh and is recharged through renewable sources such as the wind, the sun, or from generators that run on biodiesel. In addition, to be transported between the cities participating in the tour, trucks powered by biofuels are used.

BMW supplies the necessary energy for the audio, video, special effects and technical support of each show. That is not all, since, on the dates carried out in Spain and Portugal, it also covered the lighting of the place, thus supplying 100% of the energy used.

The link between BMW and Coldplay dates back to 2021, when the band performed the song “Higher Power” at the launch of the electric BMW iX and i4.

“From the brand we take the concept of sustainability to another level with the use of BMW i3 batteries for live shows, with the aim of contributing to greater sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint.”

-Jens Thiemer, BMW Senior Vice President of Customers and Brands
