He BMW X1 M35i xDrive is the high-performance version of the 2023 BMW X1, the third generation of the compact SUV. The range, in which there are plug-in hybrid versions and even a 100% electric one, the ix1, has this variant with the M seal, whose deliveries begin in November 2023.
In such a model, the main thing is undoubtedly its mechanics. It is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 300 horsepower (221 kW) with M TwinPower Turbo technology, although in the American market it reaches even more, 312 CV (233 kW). It is the most powerful version of the latest modular generation of Efficient Dynamics engines from the BMW Group.
The block of the BMW X1 M35i xDrive delivers its maximum power between 5,750 and 6,500 rpm, with a maximum torque of 400 Nm available from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm. The brand explains that it is launching a more robust crankshaft, and has improved the system that supplies oil to the pistons, with cooling channels and main half-bearings and covers inherited from the six-cylinder blocks. It has also revised M TwinPower technology by improving turbocharging and indirect charge air cooling, as well as incorporating dual injection that prepares the mixture.
Associated with transmission 7-speed steptronic, which sends four-wheel drive via the BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system linked to chassis control and incorporates a mechanical limited-slip differential on the front axle. As standard it also has adaptive M suspension and a specific exhaust system signed by BMW M, in addition to a sports steering that hardens with speed and that, says the brand, “has a very direct rack relationship.”
Performance is very good, as the BMW X1 M35i xDrive can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h.
There are aesthetic differences compared to other versions. For starters, the M-specific chassis lowers the height by 15mm. It also has a double pair of exhaust outlets and 19 inch wheels double-spoke M light alloy (with 20-millimeter-wider tires), with 20-inch wheels and sports tires among the options. The brake calipers are in gray and carry the M logo, although M Compound brakes are offered, with a four-piston fixed caliper and 385mm front and 330mm rear perforated discs.
The interior of the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive exudes sportiness, which can be further enhanced by the optional M sports seats with illuminated M logo. It has two screens, one of 10.25 inches for the instrument panel and another of 10.7 for the multimedia equipment, with specific content of this M version. It is controlled with the BMW iDrive with QuickSelect and the software BMW Operating System 9.
