Sebastien Loeb has made history on the Dakar. With his new victory on stage 13, he became the first car driver in history to achieve six consecutive stage victories in the world’s toughest race, surpassing his record of five. ari vatanen in 1989.
The Frenchman is having a spectacular second week of the race after a bad start between accidents and getting disoriented on several occasions. He had lost more than two hours to the race leader and virtual winner, Nasser Al-Attiyah, until his streak has begun. After six consecutive victories (seven in total in this edition), he moved to second overall, one hour and 21 minutes behind the Qatari.
“It has been a difficult day due to low visibility that there were in some places, although it has gone very well for me. The dunes were difficult to pass due to how soft they were and we had a moment of stress at a waypoint in which the lines of the motorcycles went through another area, but luckily my co-driver was right”, commented Loeb about the stage.
In addition, with this seventh victory in the 2023 edition of the Dakar, Loeb is the first car driver to win so many stages in one edition since Carlos Sainz. ‘El Matador’ achieved it in 2011 and the Frenchman will have the opportunity to surpass him in the last stage.
