Ford wants to replace the mechanical wrecker with drones

In the not too distant future, it is possible that mechanical assistance becomes aerial. Ford has published a patent showing the company is considering using drones to jump-start vehicles with battery problems.

How does drone start work?

It sounds like a science fiction idea, but the idea is that owners call a roadside assistance service and instead of waiting for a tow truck to arrive, one or more drones would deploy from a nearby station and fly to the stopped vehicle. Upon reaching the vehicle, they would connect to the battery cables, allowing the vehicle to start again.

Using drones for this purpose has several potential advantages. First of all, waiting time for roadside assistance could be significantly reduced, since drones can reach vehicles faster than cranes. In second place, drones are more flexible than the aforementioned tow trucks, as they can fly directly to the disabled vehicle, regardless of traffic or terrain conditions.

It should be remembered that In some regions, drones are already being used for various things, including last-mile delivery services, search and rescue operations, and many other activities. Although the use of drones to jump vehicles is still in an early stage of development, this technology could be a convenient and effective solution for assisting vehicles stuck in some remote location and probably also for military use.
