Google updates connectivity with Android Auto

Android Auto, the automotive interface for Android phones, received a new update from Google, which was released in the framework of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The Android interface now has a new tiled layout that is more flexible and adapts to various screen sizes.

The layout is split screen and has the map on the left side, closer to the driver, while on the right is a large tile focused on entertainment, such as the audio source, the app being used or the podcast being played.

Depending on the vehicle’s screen orientation, a new shortcut bar appears at the bottom or side of the screen, which displays more icons so users can quickly switch between audio, messages, and phone calls without having to jump through the app menu.

Google Assistant will become more proactive in Android Auto, providing smart suggestions to the driver, including missed call reminders, shared arrival times, and music and podcast suggestions. Google has also announced that users will be able to make voice calls via WhatsApp from Android Auto.
