As we anticipated several days ago, Ford will be back in Formula 1 after more than 20 years and at a time when the highest category is moving towards a more electric and sustainable future. Iconic American automobile company and Red Bull Powertrains have signed a long-term technical partnership for the development of a new hybrid power unit to be used starting this season 2026 of the F.1.
“This is the start of an exciting new chapter in Ford’s racing history, which began when my great-grandfather won a race that helped launch our company.” said Bill FordCEO. “Ford is returning to the pinnacle of the sport, bringing its long tradition of innovation, sustainability and electrification to one of the world’s most visible stages.” added.
red bull ford will provide the power units for both teams Oracle Red Bull Racing and Scuderia AlphaTauri from 2026 and until at least 2030.
From 2023, Ford and Red Bull Powertrains will work on the development of the energy unit that will be part of the new technical regulationsincluding a 350 kW electric motor and a new combustion engine that can accept fully sustainable fuels, ready for the season 2026.
“Ford’s return to Formula 1 with Red Bull Racing is about where we are going as a company – increasingly electric, software-defined and modern vehicles and experiences,” said jim farleyChairman and CEO of Ford Motor Company. “F1 will be an incredibly profitable platform to innovate, share ideas and technologies and connect with tens of millions of new customers.”
Ford will provide its technical expertise in all areas where it can add value to the world champion team. Areas such as the development of the combustion engine and key advances such as electric motor and battery cell technology, power unit control software and analysis will be explored together.

The return of Ford, by the dome of F1
The Formula 1 continues to grow its audience in key markets around the world, including the United States. In addition, the FIA and F1 have a commitment to sustainability with increased use of electric power and sustainable fuels, which is one of the key reasons for the return of the Oval brand to Formula 1.
Despite leaving the sport in 2004, Ford remains the third most successful engine manufacturer in F1 history with 10 Constructors’ championships and 13 Drivers’ championships.

While FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said: “There are few manufacturers with such a celebrated history in motorsports as Ford, so to see them return to Formula 1 is great news. This further underlines the success of the 2026 power unit regulations which have at their heart a commitment to sustainability.”
