Marc Marquez and Joan Mir will be the new Repsol Honda partner for 2023. Both already know each other and have started working together. A job conditioned by the bad performance that the bike has had in the first tests and that has caused great concern in the team.
“When I was in the test I could see some things going around with him. It’s A very different motorcycle from the ones I have ridden. You have to drive in a different way and you can gain a lot of time at the entrance of the curves”, Mir said in his official presentation.
A “different” ride that he was already able to experience: “I could see this type of riding in Marcsince he has been carrying it this way for many years and controls it perfectly”.
“Sharing the box with Marc is a huge challenge, but it can also be something very positive, because you are measuring yourself against the best driver on the grid and that will make you push and get something more out of yourself to perform a little better”, says the champion MotoGP in 2020.
And he reveals how his first conversation about the performance of the Honda was: “During training, Marc approached and I was able to talk to him about my feelingsI think it is something that interests him to see the direction of work that is going to be taken”.
“It’s important to listen to what your teammate says about the bike, especially when he comes from another team, as you can understand in which areas the bike can improve from another point of view. We mainly talk about that,” explains Mir.
Honda is his “greatest challenge” in MotoGP: “Reaching the most successful team in history is a huge challenge. When you look at the past and the history that this team has, you get goosebumps. Being able to be part of it is an impressive pride and I really want to live up to it.”
