It was quite an amazing sight in qualifying for the British Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc pulled irony on the radio after he Carlos Sainz overtook him on the preparation lap. “Very nice overtaking, Carlos…”the Monegasque released on the radio.
After qualifying, he explained this comment: “With the adrenalin inside the car and without knowing at that moment if you are going to get it, the radio message was a bit more aggressive than it should have been.”
“We have a weekend where I have the priority to choose if I want to be in front or behind, and one in which Carlos has the priority to choose if he wants to be in front or behind. Here I had the option to choose and I decided to be in front, in the end we were very tight on the times, and I think it was very difficult for us to know if they were going to pass us or not before the flag, Carlos decided to overtake”, explained Charles.
Sainz, for his part, told ‘Motorsport’ that “I wasn’t angry” for what had happened: “I was not angry, it was just a moment of high tension, high pressure, almost falling in Q1 without scoring a lap for the checkered flag…”.
“The problem is that the people behind us started to overtake us, which meant that if you give a gap of four seconds between all the cars, that meant that I was not going to do a lap, if everyone is going to respect that gap of four seconds that we give ourselves more or less, and because a gentleman’s agreement no longer exists, it has been completely forgotten”, he explained.
Ferrari slipped McLaren into the standings. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri they will come out ahead. Leclerc will start fourth and Sainz, fifth.
