It is the new generation of the X-Trail, the successful C-SUV from the Japanese firm that for the first time incorporates the e-Power hybrid system and which at the same time represents the debut of this technology in our country.
Developed on the CMF-C/D modular platform –the same used, for example, by the new Renault Austral-, at the design level the rethinking was complete, returning to straighter lines like the first two editions. The front sector is where the changes are most noticeable, since it was completely reformulated. In addition to a huge V-shaped grill, like many other vehicles, it has the headlights divided into two sectors, an upper one for the Led daytime running lights and another located lower down for the main headlights, which in turn are attached to the sockets. of air from the ends of the bumper. The fog lights were relocated even lower, on the edges of the lower air intake.
In profile, the straight lines stand out, with a fairly high waistline that has a break at the level of the third window or the C-pillar. There also stands out a style line that highlights the width of the wheel arches, which seeks to convey a greater feeling of robustness. As in all SUVs, it will have plastic protections in the wheel arches, the lower part of the bumpers and the inevitable roof bars.
Finally, regarding the exterior, the rear part is somewhat more continuous, with the headlights located just where the rear window ends and with a boomerang-type format, now straighter and the bumper with a large area with plastic protection.
Inside, the redesign is also complete: there the multimedia system screen, located in the upper part of the center console, floating tablet type and the rectangular air vents, takes center stage. Special mention for the new 100% digital instrumentation configurable by the driver and that will surely also be incorporated into other models of the brand. There is also a more refined setting, with aluminum details, two-tone leather coverings and an improvement in habitability. Of course, it has various driving assistance systems such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control or the lane keeping system.
Considered by the brand as an “extended autonomy electric”, the main novelty of the X-Trail e-Power is precisely its mechanics. As we always clarify in these cases, unlike other hybrid systems, e-Power technology uses the electric drive(s) at all times to drive the vehicle, while the combustion engine is used only as a generator to recharge the batteries.
