Pedro de la Rosa, dart for Alpine by Fernando Alonso? “Age tag is terrible”

Pedro de la Rosa will be one of the great allies that Fernando Alonso have in this new stage in Formula 1. In a stage in which he will wear green, in which the Asturian, two-time world champion with Renault and former Alpine, will join Aston Martin with the aim of winning again.

He will join a team that has not looked at the DNI as the French did. as if he did an alpine team who ‘played’ with Alonso’s age to end up losing Fernando and also Oscar Piastri, his great promise.

De la Rosa, in this sense and also speaking of a nyck devries who will live in AlphaTauri his first full course in F1 after debuting with Williams at Monza. He will do it at the age of 28, at a time when it seems that at that age it is difficult to debut in the Great Circus.

“They can tell you that the other one is faster, but…”

The ex of teams like Jaguar and HRT spoke of his own experience with McLaren at the age in between when in 2008 he could have replaced Alonso instead of Kovalainen: “It was a possibility… but there are ten years difference. It’s your opinion against that of others.

He was 36 years old at the time, and that reduced his options to be a starter at McLaren: “They can tell you that they think the other is faster, but the age label is terrible.”

“I am of the opinion that being younger does not translate necessarily to be faster”, affirms in words that collects the medium ‘Motorsport’.

And he continues: “I am against the age label. I have suffered it. I have been in teams that have signed another driver saying that perhaps he was not faster … but he was younger. That’s murder.”

“What if he would have beaten Hamilton?”

In that sense, De la Rosa would have competed against Lewis Hamilton: “What if he would have beaten him? No, of course not. But he knew that that it was not my goal. Before 2007 he knew that he was a special pilot. I always told McLaren that.”

De la Rosa will be Aston Martin ambassador from 2023, year in which Fernando Alonso will run with the British. The brand is clear about its objective, and it is putting everything it has and more to have a champion car.
