An American driver prevented the theft of his Lexus RX thanks to a totally unexpected weapon: a soup he was taking to a friend.

Car thieves are lately making use of high technology to achieve their goals. However, there are still those who use more rudimentary methods to get a car stolen.

This is the case of a friend of aliens in New Orleans, United States, whotook advantage of the mistake of a driver to try to take his Lexus RX. What he did not expect was the response from the owner who, moved by anger and adrenaline, made his plan go to waste. The curious thing about this case is that everything was recorded by a nearby security camera.

He left his car running and it was almost stolen

It shows the owner of the Lexus, who I had left him stopped in the street, walking towards a house with what turned out to be a gift for a friend on Christmas Eve. As he’s near the gate, a silver SUV pulls up to his RX and a man jumps out of the back.

Moments later, that same person opens the door of the Lexus and gets in to discover that the owner had left it running. While this was happening, the owner realized the event and returned to the car with the intention of preventing the thief from escaping.

The owner had to get in front of his own vehicle as the thief collided with it twice. On both occasions, the owner managed to stay on his feet before throwing a container of gumbo (a Mexican soup that was the aforementioned gift) at the windshield.

Soon after, he jumped on the hood, climbed over the windshield and reached inside through the sunroof to grab the offender’s jacket. This caused the thief to stop his attempted robbery and decide to return to the silver SUV, which sped away.

Be careful with the new strategy of thieves to rob us in the car

“In hindsight, there were better decisions I could have made, but I’m sick of crime in our town. We hope that our police and our municipal leaders will do what is necessary to protect their citizens,” the victim explained to the local media, which highlighted that in 2022 car thefts grew by 35 percent more and 4,011 vehicles were stolen.
