Purchases of new cars due to financing decrease 2.4% in the first two months of 2023

According to the Report on Financing and Buyers by State in 2022, carried out by the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors -AMDA- with the collaboration of JATO and Urban Science, it indicates that Financing for the purchase of new vehicles (retail and fleets) during the first two months was 56.2%, which represents a decrease of 2.4 percentage points compared to the same period in 2022.

Regarding the periods in which buyers pay their financing, in the segments of Subcompacts, Compacts, SUVs, Minivans and Sports the preferred period to pay off your units is still 60 months (five years), while in Pick-ups and Minivans the preferred period is 36 months (three years) while for Pick-ups and Luxury it is 24 months (two years).


Guillermo Rosales Zárate, executive president of AMDA, pointed out that, “only the Pick-ups segment presented an annual advance in the percentage of participation by segment for the period January-February 2023.”


Rosales pointed out about the participation of credit in retail purchases (without fleets) by State in the same reference period, the percentage of credit at the national level closed at 65.7%, leaving 18 States above this indexwith Sonora, Puebla and Chiapas leading this list.


“The participation of brand finance companies presents an advance in the Pick-ups, Compacts, Minivans and Luxury segments; while the banks strengthened their participation in the segments of SUVs and Subcompacts”, points out the head of the AMDA.
