After the support of Joe Biden, now it has been Barack Obama who has seconded the writers’ struggle led by the Writers Guild of America. It was precisely during the presentation of a docuseries by the former president for Netflix entitled ‘Work: what we do all day’.

The former president entered the audiovisual business when he left the US presidency and founded with Michelle Obama in 2018 the production company Higher Ground Production. His latest project is a documentary series for Netflix titled ‘Work: what we do all day’directed by Caroline Suh and inspired by the 1974 book by historian Studs Terkel.

During the promotion of the docuseries, Obama said that it shows some aspects that are constant in the workplace, among them “the fight of people to make sure that their employers treat them fairly and that they receive a fair share of the cake”. And in that sense and showing himself “as someone who supports the guild and who believes in storytelling and his craft” he made a petition for the writers: “I hope that they are compensated and that the importance of what they do is reflected in any agreement they reach.” He added: “I am very supportive of the writers and the strike and I hope they receive a fair share of the fruits of their labor.”

In addition to his involvement in audiovisual production, his eldest daughter Malia is also taking her first steps in the business. He has been a writer on the Donald Glover and Janine Nabers Prime Video series ‘Swarm’. And, precisely, Glover’s production company produces a short film by Malia Obama.
