Volkswagen Golf MKVIII prepares facelift, will be ready for hybridization

Volkswagen Golf continues to “break it” in the different markets where it still exists, and while Volkswagen de México seems to have no plans -or idea what to do- regarding this model, time is ticking and with it, the first update for the eighth generation of the hatchback has arrived.

Visually, not so many evolutions are noticeable, however the work is there, along with an improved cabin. There are slight tweaks for some components with the clear German DNA of the Golf:

  • Sharper front fascia
  • Air intakes similar to the design of the ID.3
  • The main headlights are narrow with a more aggressive design.

At the back is where there are almost no variants. The design and order of the components is classic, with minimal tweaks:

  • The design of the skulls is different
  • For hybrid versions the charging port will be on the left front fender
  • eHybrid badging will be on the tailgate.

According to images from CarsCoops, In the passenger compartment there is a touch screen that could be 15”, as is the case with the electric variant. On the steering wheel, the multifunction buttons change their design, while the finishes and upholstery are expected to improve their quality, as well as the addition of more technology. Volkswagen had also been working on the safety aspectso it is expected that for this facelift, the Golf will have developments in this regard.

Finally, the Golf MKIII.2 will use the MQB Evo architecture. Therefore, you can use different mechanics available to Volkswagen:

  • 1.0 eTSI & 1.5 eTSI engines for hybrid variants
  • 2.0 TSI engine stays for GTI & R versions (thank God!)
  • 2.0 TDI diesel engine could disappear
  • The eHybrid & GTE variants will receive more attention. They could go up to 268 Hp with extended ranges with zero emissions (hopefully).

Tell us, do you still have hopes that the Volkswagen Golf will return to Mexico?
