It was one of the most striking images of the Canadian Grand Prix.Esteban Ocon I was driving with the rear wing half loose. And even he was afraid that he might fall. But in Alpine they are very calm. This is how he expressed it otmar szafnauerhead of the French team, justifying that they are “trying to understand” the piece.
“The spoiler held. We designed and built this wing, so we knew what was going on. And we’re glad it didn’t come loose. We tested this in research and development. We put it through these tests simply because of the way it’s mounted and therefore we’re looking at these types of modes and understanding whether or not it will come loose.”
And revealed that the FIA asked at the end of the race: “The FIA came to us and said it looks like his rear wing is moving and we looked at it and talked about it.”
“It was not an easy afternoon with Esteban in the points and Pierre, unfortunately, lost. I think we have a lot to learn from the race, as we saw that both Ferraris, Sergio Perez and Alex Albonthey made the one stop strategy work, whereas we planned one stop but went to two stops in both cars, which was probably not the optimal approach given the end result,” said Otmar.
“Four Races on Points”
Ocon was eighth and added four points to the pocket. He couldn’t rate Pierre Gasley, twelfth. And in Alpine they are happy with his progression: “Looking to the future, we have achieved four consecutive races in the points and we must capitalize on our stronger race pace turning that level of performance into greater amounts of points.”
“Next is the Austrian sprint weekend, where we should come out with a better result from both races“, has sentenced Otmar.
