the unknown kit that temporarily improved it

There are few small sports that have permeated as much as the Peugeot 205 GTI. French was a icon for a whole generation and that has caused it to be a really valued specimen today. Throughout the history of this model we have seen special editions such as the 205 GTI Plus, although the truth is that it did not need much more to succeed. There was also a Peugeot 205 GTI PTS 125 for that most demanding public that was looking for maximum performance in this hot hatchback from the 80’s

The 205 GTI already caused a sensation from the first moment. The 205 had come from the pen of the designer, Gérard Welter, and quickly gained popularity among the general public. Although something was missing from its release, a version that could stand up to your most dynamic rivals. That’s why the GTI arrived with its 105 CV and an improved behavior with the set-up. Later he would gain power and skills, but development took a long time. That’s why an official kit came out which temporarily improved it.

That same era was the 205 GTI PTS 125, which refers to Peugeot Talbot Sport and its power level. It was a specific kit that It had to be installed in an official workshop and it required a subsequent homologation, which was on sale between 1985 and 1986. There were not many units that incorporated it and that made it an even more special copy, if possible. To create it, they had the help of the preparer, Danielson, who worked exclusively on engine improvement. Both the exterior and the interior, as well as the chassis remained unchanged.

The cylinder head of the engine and the camshaft were modified, in addition to including larger valves. The head gasket was thinner and stronger, while the intake and exhaust system were optimized. The result is that the 1.6-liter engine achieved a power of 125 hp and 140 Nm of torque. By today’s standards it may not seem like much, but at the time it made a difference thanks to its small size and light weight. He was able to accelerate 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and its maximum speed increased to 205 km/h.

The Peugeot 205 GTI PTS 125 is a Rare avis, a practically unknown model of which not even the brand has exact records. They had planned production of 18,000 kits, but it is not known for sure how many they ended up manufacturing. It should also be mentioned that it was only available for a year because in 1986 the 205 GTI arrived with 115 hp which as standard was very close to what they did with the kit.
