A study reveals that potential buyers of electric cars would buy another type of clean vehicle if there was an alternative.

Electrification in the automobile industry seems unstoppable, but reports like the Deloitte Global Automotive Consumer Study 2023 they provide interesting and unexpected information about what to expect in relation to new automotive technologies and consumer behaviours.

And what do we think of 1oo% electric cars? With the exception of China and Germany, consumers preferred hybrid electric vehicles to full-battery ones. In Spain, 65 percent of Spanish consumers would opt for an electrified vehicle, if they had to buy a new car. 31 percent of those consulted would opt for a combustion, gasoline or diesel model.

But all that glitters is not gold, because of that percentage, 33 percent would opt for a hybrid, 19 percent for a plug-in hybrid and barely 13 percent for a fully electric vehicle.

And of those who would opt for a battery-powered car, there is no total conviction. Nearly half of those consulted, 47 percent, would reconsider the purchase of an electric car, if an environmentally sustainable fuel alternative existed for traditional engines.

Between the Reasons in favor of buying an electric carhighlights fuel savings, concern for climate change, government incentives to help purchase, the best driving experience and less maintenance.

On the other hand, there are few surprises in the factors that make the acquisition of an electric vehicle unappealing: high purchase pricelack of public charging and autonomy infrastructures continue to be the main concerns of potential electric buyers.

Ecology is not the main reason for buying an electric car, according to a study

Precisely, when asked about the recharging place that would be used, more than half of those consulted, 53 percent would opt for charging stations located in public placeswhile 21 percent would do so at their workplace and only 19 percent at home.

The reasons why the home itself is not the main charging source must be found in the inability to install a charger and the lack of knowledge for its installation. Thus, traditional gas stations, where charging points would have to be installed, become the preferred place for users to charge their vehicle.
