The Indianapolis 500 race was expected to be marked by a display of Alex Palou. However, it was a chaotic race, not only because of the crash at the pit exit that the Spanish driver received and deprived him of make history when he was leading
The Catalan pilot had an appointment with history, and if it weren’t for a unfortunate incident at the exit of the pits, I would have gotten it. Despite everything, the Catalan finished fourth, but that was the least of it given the chaotic nature of the 107th edition of the 500 Miles.
A flying wheel: close to falling against the stands
On lap 185, one of the deadliest accidents in living memory happened: Felix Rosenqvist and Kyle Kirkwood in the absence of 14 laps to go, which meant the Red flag.
Kirkwood made an impact with his left rear tire Rosenqvist’s car. He vehicle flipped in midair and ended up upside down when one of the tires flew into the grandstand. The image impresses, so the race management decided to suspend the competition.
Panic broke out in the stands and the circuit staff quickly went to the place where the wheel fell. The damage to the front was considerable, so a crane had to take the vehicle.
Not out of a “Final Destination 4” movie, Kirkwood’s tire flies off the track after the collision with Rosenqvist, fortunately without destination to the grandstands falling to the parking lot.
