The bosom of Ferrari right now is chaos. Between the lack of results, the controversial strategy decisions and the rumors of the departure of its drivers, the Manarello headquarters does not have a quiet week even if there is a stoppage of racing.
Rumors have circulated in recent weeks that placed both Charles Leclerc as Carlos Sainz outside the Scuderia as well as information that pointed out that Alexander Albon could replace the man from Madrid in 2024.
This information has been denied by Frederic Vasseurhead of the Ferrari team, in an interview with ‘Motorsport’: “I don’t know where that story came from. I have had Albon in the past, we are friends. If a journalist asks me if he’s doing a good job, I say yes. That doesn’t mean I’m interested in signing him.”
“I think that Alex has a contract with Williams for 2024. And the team is investing a lot, so there is no problem,” she said.
This information came out as a result of a possible dissatisfaction of its current drivers with the team, something that Vasseur also ruled out: “Mistakes were made, but there are no reasons. It can happen that two races in a row are completed without embroidering it. I’m sure they were frustrated with your performance. I have talked with thembut everything is okay”.
The French leader is in his first season at the helm of Ferrari. A temporary moment that stands out as key to not making transfer movements this season: “I was clear with the team at the beginning of the season and also with the drivers. I need to get to know everyone, it takes months. They still have a contract for another year.. It’s not something that needs to be discussed now.”
Despite the fact that both Sainz and Leclerc are out of contract in 2024, Vasseur is not worried about it and assures that the renewal is not Ferrari’s first objective: “Of course we will talk about it in the future, but is not the first concern. The priority, for everyone, is to focus on the team“.
“I don’t want there to be distractions. There was an article in the press about Sainz at Sauber. Let’s drop that topic now,” he concluded.
