What’s going on?
The internet auction house F1 Authentics opened a bid for a unique vehicle: the Racing Point from Checo, with similar aesthetic configuration to the car that won the difficult GP Shakir in 2020.
It should be noted that it is an official car, but it is not functional, it is only for display, that is, it does not have an engine, but it is made with parts and components that at some point were part of a competition car.
Racing Point built several RP20s for promotional activities, and specifically three with the configuration of the only Racing Point -today Aston Martin- to have won an F1 GP in modern times.
The auction is online and those interested can bid with increments of £500 (Pounds Sterling) between bids, the starting price is £80,000
A bit of Racing Point history
The RP20 was nicknamed the “Pink Mercedes”, due to its controversial resemblance to the 2019 championship-winning Mercedes AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+.
The show car has been built by the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula OneTM Team (which used to be Racing Point) and is one of only four produced worldwide.
It features a number of genuine components from the actual racing car and has been made from the same molds as the RP20 driven by Checo Pérez.
The auction car is NOT functional, but it is made with many parts of single-seaters that did compete
