SUVs were born as a type of vehicle designed to move on paths that are not excessively complicated, with a more robust body and off the ground and all-wheel drive. Today there are already SUVs of all kinds, but above all focused on asphalt, with true dynamic qualities. The Volvo XC60 does not pursue that excellence behind the wheel, as we saw in our test, but instead focuses on ride comfort.
It is one of the best large premium SUVs if you value having an excellent travel vehicle, with a suspension capable of erasing any irregularity in the asphalt. In addition, it has a very personal design. And the hybrid system works very well, although with other plug-in hybrid SUVs we have achieved lower consumption once the battery dies. The more rides you can do in electric mode, the better.
Another handicap of the drive system is that there is some noise at strong acceleration. It is not annoying, but there are other alternatives in the more refined segment. Of course, it is a powerful car with good performance. One of the best in the category and that justifies, in part, its price.
The interior finishes are also very good, especially if you choose a unit with the Ultimate finish that we tested. The infotainment system, with Google’s operating system, is not bad but it should improve its integration with the iPhone. And it’s a shame to have saved on a few controls for the air conditioning or the driving modes, because you have to go through, yes or yes, through the touch screen in a vertical arrangement.
