when they also dare with the boats

The automotive sector has always had a certain relationship with the nautical sector. In the end, it consists of moving from one place to another, either by land or by sea. And both worlds share this taste for luxury and benefits… That is why it is quite common for us to see collaborations between companies in both sectors, the latter giving rise to the Candela C-8 Polestar Power. It is a completely electric hovercraft that carries the Swedish philosophy as its flag.

It was in August 2022 when both firms reached an agreement that Polestar would would supply batteries and charging technology to Candela’s ships. Now comes the result with a boat that curiously shares the battery pack with the Polestar 2. In this case, it is access to the range of 24 modules with b (there is another with 27 modules and 78 kWh) and maintains the charging technology in direct current so that it is faster to recharge it. In the car, charging speeds of 155 kW are accepted and we assume that in the boat it will be the same.

With this battery it achieves a range of 57 nautical miles, which would equal 105 kilometers. It is calculated at a cruising speed of 22 knots (41 km/h) and would be higher than what some boats with an internal combustion engine can achieve. They also highlight its autonomy at high speed, which would be two to three times better than that of other more conventional electric boats. Polestar shows off its chest by also providing R&D services for the integration of its technology and software in nautical applications.

The peculiarity of this Candela C-8 Polestar Power boat is that it has a direct drive azimuth motor (baptized as Candela C-POD). What it does is push the ship to “fly” on computer-guided hovercraft that lift the hull above the water at high speed. This is done to reduce energy consumption by up to 80% compared to other traditional boats. Your price starts at 330,000 euros and its arrival is estimated for the second quarter of 2024.
