Ford is back in Formula 1. After his last experience in 2004 with Jaguar, The American brand has taken advantage of the competition boom in the US and the expected 2026 to confirm that it will be in the competition hand in hand with Red Bull. Everything, thanks to the ‘no’ of those from energy drinks to Porsche.
To the total break with one of the most emblematic car brands when the agreement seemed to be practically closed. When only the signature was missing, the Austrians closed in and they stopped the operation.
They stopped the entrance of Porsche, that he is crazy to return and that he continues to observe the panorama to enter 2026 and be the seventh biker… or to know if the eighth in case Cadillac also arrived at the hands of Andretti.
Porsche wanted 50% of Red Bull
Why aren’t they sixth and Ford is? Because the Germans wanted to buy 50% of the team, thus having enormous power in strategic decision making and executives that Red Bull had no intention of allowing.
They did not want intrusions into their way of working, and they knew that Sooner than later there would be someone who was interested in what they wanted.
This is confirmed by Christian Horner, head of energy drinks: “We started talking to ford in autumn, after having done it with Porsche and with Honda. It was all very fast.”
“Here there is no exchange in the shareholding or in the control of the business. It is a direct relationship that the two parties wanted,” he says.
“Ford wanted to come back”
And it confirms Ford’s desire to return to F1, something that almost happens even as a manufacturer: “They wanted to return, and it is a good path for them.”
“They don’t have to work on the engine from scratch. We, meanwhile, receive their skill and everything they know about electric motors Horner insists.
